In cooperation with the local Roma association and the University, the summer school for Roma children was organized in Novi Sad and Banja Luka, where by the language of music the basic concepts of human rights were presented to the children. They were inspired and encouraged to continue their school education by putting a special emphasis on building their self-confidence and making them aware of the fact that they are full rights citizens who has the same rights as all others.

Banja Luka

Banja Luka is the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the largest and most developed city in the Republika Srpska entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and has traditionally been the center of the Bosanska Krajina region located in the northwestern part of the country.

Novi Sad

Novi Sad is Serbia’s second largest city, after Belgrade, famous for its multicultural and multiethnic character. Serbs, Hungarians, Slovaks, Rutenians, Bulgarians, Slovenians, Jews, Croats, Roma and others, has lived side by side in Novi Sad for centuries.

Music as a universal language

Our basic pedagogical method comes down to one thing: “music as a universal language”.

Our partners

The Roma Cultural Association Cerain is our partner in Novi Sad.The association was founded more than ten years ago by a group of Roma musicians.

Cerain Programme

Cerain courses covered 5 major areas: Music theory, Music history and music genres, Internet as information and inspiration, Human rights and English Language.

Cerain Lecturers

Within the school programme our lecturers were recruited locally (Novi Sad and Banja Luka), from other cities in the region (Belgrade and Sarajevo), and internationally (Sweden and Italy).

Study Visits

A great part of our programme consisted of study visits to institutions of culture in Novi Sad and Banja Luka.

Roma are a permanent, natural and integral part of the society

Roma people are not a temporary or occasional “problem” of the society, nor an exotic jewel to be shown from time to time at cultural festivals. Roma are a permanent, natural and integral part of the society, and as such, all the Roma problems are at the same time the problems of the overall society. In the same way, all the problems of the society are the problems of the Roma population. Therefore these problems can be resolved only throught the work on the structural and sustainable changes in all the segments of the society, and by the joined efforts of the Roma and non-Roma population.

We had a great time in Banja Luka. Our children were wonderful, and we all learned a lot from each other! We are exhausted, but proud of what we achieved this summer. Detailed reports from Novi Sad and Banja Luka are coming soon!

Our summer school has moved to Banja Luka. We have 15 Roma kids from Prnjavor and Derventa. It is exciting, beautiful and inspiring to work with them!

We successfully finished our project in Novi Sad. Our program was received well and all of us, both kids and teachers are very satisfied with the results of this summer school we offered to the kids in Novi Sad.
